Abstract

In May 2023, there was year-on-year (yoy) inflation of 3.69 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.01. All CPI cities in Papua experienced inflation, where in Merauke it was 4.57 percent, in Timika it was 6.04 percent, and in Jayapura it was 2.39 percent.

Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by an increase in the expenditure group index in: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.91 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 0.34 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 1.30 percent; equipment, equipment, and household routine maintenance group of 2.66 percent; the health group by 0.49 percent; transportation group by 9.55 percent; recreation, sport and culture group by 6.85 percent; the education group of 7.94 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 2.72 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 3.23 percent.
The May 2023 monthly/month to month (mtm) inflation rate is 0.34 percent and the 2023 calendar year/year to date (ytd) inflation rate (January–May) is 1.08 percent.
The yoy inflation rate for foodstuffs in May 2023 was 2.89 percent, the mtm inflation rate was 2.18 percent, and the ytd inflation rate was 3.60 percent.
